Albuquerque –

On June 19th, 2022, around 3:15AM, Albuquerque Police officers were finishing up a call when a man stopped near the officers in an SUV and got out. According to police, he told officers he had a gun and he would not drop it.

There were numerous orders from officers for him to drop the gun. APD officers eventually opened fire on the man. He was wounded and taken to UNMH where he later died.

In a Twitter video posted by APD, Chief Harold Medina said investigators have retrieved what appears to be an airsoft gun from the scene and noted that the shooting appears to be a so-called “suicide by cop” scenario.

This is APD’s 4th deadly officer involved shooting of 2022 and the 75th homicide for the year.
