Albuquerque –
Albuquerque and surrounding areas have been hit with a winter storm that have left some residents without power. Some residents have been without power since 3:00 AM. In certain areas, heavy snowfall blanketed trees that hadn’t shed their leaves, resulting in power lines being damaged. Albuquerque Fire Rescue has responded to numerous calls about arching or downed lines. Presently, PNM shows 23,688 customers without power in Bernalillo County. Furthermore, Sandoval and Valencia counties are experiencing power outages, impacting 8,235 and 14,281 customers, respectively.
The Albuquerque Police Department is advising drivers to please exercise caution if you need to drive to work. Drive like you have a lot of Grandma’s posole and you can’t spill it. In addition, you are reminded that if traffic signals are down, please treat them as a four way stop.
The Albuquerque Public Schools announced at 7:48AM that all APS schools are closed for the day due to snow, icy conditions and intermittent power outages.
Rio Rancho Public Schools are also closed for the day, but students are asked to go online for remote learning. The City of Rio Rancho shows they are opening at 10:00 AM, this is subject to change. Rio Rancho Municipal Court is planning to open at 11:00 AM, again this is subject to change.
Bernalillo County Government Offices and Bernalillo County Metropolitan Court are closed. This also includes East Mountain employees.
Bernalillo Public Schools are remote learning for Thursday.
According to residents who live in the east mountains, this area has received at least six inches of snow, and the snow is continuing to fall. Please drive carefully on I-40.

I always loved a good snow day as a kid and as a teacher. Whoever invented the term asynchronous learning is an idiot. Call it a snow day, or like you did, remote learning, but asynchronous learning is something they must have dreamed up while sitting around in their ivory tower over hot cups of coffee and a pastry. I defy any elementary or middle school student to be able to define that. Basically, it’s a way to avoid making up school days. Can you just see them slapping each other on the backs? Hahahaha, we have the worst performing schools in the entire nation… let’s think of a phrase they won’t understand or even agree with if they did. No real expectation of learning at all, which is good because many don’t have power, much less computers or Wi-Fi. From KOAT : “Students and staff will now participate in asynchronous learning and teaching. Delayed starts will remain the same without expectation of prior class work before arrival.”
Let them play in the snow.
