Albuquerque –
On June 6, 2026, at approximately 11:54 PM, the New Mexico State Police were requested by the Albuquerque Police Department to assist with a crash involving a motorcycle on Interstate 25 northbound near Comanche.
Upon arrival, officers observed bystanders providing aid to the motorcyclist, identified as 24-year-old Keegan Thomas. A 2013 BMW, driven by Danny Sanchez, was also located at the scene and sustained significant front-end damage consistent with a rear-end collision involving the motorcycle.
Preliminary findings indicate both vehicles were traveling northbound on Interstate 25 when the motorcycle was struck from behind.
A tipster sent us video of the aftermath of the initial crash, it shows the crashed motorcycle and its rider motionless on the ground in two separate lanes of traffic. There are two unrelated vehicles quickly approaching the scene that came into contact with the motorcycle, and the downed motorcyclist.
On June 10th, 2026, the Second District Attorney Office filed a nolle prosequi (notice to NOT prosecute) on the case against Sanchez. The paperwork filed in court said Sanchez “did not collide with or cause the death of the decedent in this matter.”

We emailed the NMSP around noon asking for additional information. A few hours later we received an email release from New Mexico State Police, it outlined the new video evidence:
Since the issuance of the original news release, investigators have obtained and reviewed additional evidence that was not available at the time of the initial investigation. On June 9, 2026, New Mexico State Police became aware of video footage recorded by a witness showing the crash sequence. The witnesses who recorded the video left the scene before New Mexico State Police officers arrived and were therefore not identified or interviewed during the initial on-scene investigation.
The video evidence shows that, at the time the 2013 BMW driven by Danny Sanchez (58) struck the motorcycle operated by Keegan Thomas (24), the motorcycle was already laying down in the number three lane of Interstate 25. The video further shows that Thomas was separated from the motorcycle and laying in the number one lane when the BMW struck it. Based on the available video evidence, Sanchez’s vehicle did not strike Thomas, either while he was operating or on the motorcycle or laying near it.
As a result of this newly obtained evidence and the continuing investigation, the previously announced charge of Homicide by Vehicle against Sanchez has been dismissed. Sanchez remains charged with misdemeanor DWI and Careless Driving. Additional charging decisions will be made in consultation with the Second Judicial District Attorney’s Office as the investigation continues.
On June 7th, 2026, the New Mexico Police posted to it’s X and Facebook pages about this incident. The Facebook post has since been deleted. This is a violation of New Mexico Inspection of Public Records Act (IPRA) laws. We asked State Police, why the Facebook post was deleted.
NMSP Sergeant Ricardo Breceda said after learning of the new information that exonerates Mr. Sanchez of the vehicular homicide charges, we determined it was appropriate to remove the earlier post and replace it with the updated post published today.

Around 2:30 PM, the Second District Attorney’s Office confirmed that Sanchez is still facing charges related to driving under the influence. We will update this story if we learn anymore information.
The New Mexico State Police added:
This investigation remains ongoing with assistance from the New Mexico State Police Vehicular Crimes Unit.
Anyone who witnessed the crash, has information related to the incident, or possesses dash camera or video footage is encouraged to contact the New Mexico State Police at 505-841-9256.
