Albuquerque –

Just before 10PM, the Albuquerque Police Department responded to a serious injury crash near Indian School Rd NE and Carlisle Blvd NE. When officers arrived, they found a pedestrian who had been struck and was suffering from life threatening injuries.

The pedestrian was taken to a local hospital, where they died from their injuries either during transport or shortly upon arrival.

APD’s Motor Unit will be called out to investigate.

If more information is released about this crash or the investigation, we will update you.

UPDATE:

APD released information on the crash investigation which said:

Through the investigation, it was discovered that a tan 2003 Chevy van was traveling south on Carlisle.  North and southbound traffic had a green light for through traffic at the intersection of Carlisle and the westbound I-40 on ramp.  The vehicle continued south through the intersection and onto the bridge over I-40 when a male pedestrian ran in front of the vehicle running west through the roadway on the bridge.  It was noted that there was no crosswalk at that location.  Additionally, there are low concreate barriers separating the roadway from the sidewalks on the east and west side of the road.  The driver had no signs of impairment ad speed was not excessive speed was not considered to be a factor in this crash.
