When BCSO deputies arrived, Enrique Solic (aka Solis), 58, was detained. Medical personnel began treating the person stabbed.

According to the person stabbed, he was driving his semi-truck behind the Love’s Travel Stop looking for a parking space when another semi-truck driver took the spot he was attempting to use. A verbal dispute followed and later escalated into a physical altercation. The victim reported that during the argument, Solic produced a pocket knife. The two men wrestled on the ground, during which the victim was struck multiple times. The criminal complaint details the extent of his injuries, noting he sustained cuts to his left outer thigh, nose, under his left arm, and to a finger.

Deputies later spoke with Solic, who was advised of his Miranda rights. The criminal compliant goes on to say that Solic told deputies that the dispute began over a parking space and claimed the victim had first approached him aggressively and wanted to fight. Solic admitted to deputies that he used a knife during the altercation, stating he acted in self-defense and stabbed the victim multiple times.

One witness told BCSO he observed the two men fighting on the ground and attempted to pull them apart. During the struggle, the witness noticed a large amount of blood coming from the person stabbed. After the men were separated, the witness remained with the victim until law enforcement and medical personnel arrived.

The complaint also says a second witness observed the two men arguing in the parking lot prior to the physical altercation. The witness stated he saw Solic remove a pocket knife from his pocket and begin striking at the victim with it. The witness said both men were “engaging in the fight.

Based on the outcome of the investigation, Solic was charged with Aggravated Battery with a Deadly Weapon. BCSO investigators determined that Solic unlawfully applied force with intent to injure by using a knife. The criminal complaint asserts that although Solic claimed self-defense to deputies, statements from a witness and the victim indicated the knife was produced before the physical fight began.

BCSO Violent Crime detectives responded to the scene and obtained a search warrant for the weapon used in the incident. Solic told deputies the knife was located inside his semi-truck.

The individual stabbed was transported to a hospital for treatment of his injuries. Their condition is not known, but their injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

Solic was booked into the Metropolitan Detention Center at 8:33 PM on December 17th. Solic has no prior arrests in the State of New Mexico, and the Pretrial Services Public Safety Assessment recommended that the court release him on his own recognizance (ROR).
