One Person Shot Following APD Officer-Involved Shooting in NE Albuquerque

Albuquerque –

This evening just after 8:30 PM, there were reports of an Albuquerque Police Department officer-involved shooting in the 4400 block of Osuna Rd NE.

Details about what led to the shooting are limited at this time.

Albuquerque Fire Rescue responded to the scene following reports of a shooting. One individual was reportedly transported to a local hospital for treatment.

No officers were injured.

This is the fourth Albuquerque Police Department officer-involved shooting since May 24.

The Multi-Agency Task Force will be called out to investigate.

UPDATE:

The Albuquerque Police Department identified the man shot by an officer Tuesday, June 2, during a confrontation in the North Valley as 37-year-old Benjamin Siegling.

According to police, the shooting occurred about 8:30 PM near 4441 Osuna Road NE after Siegling fled on foot from an officer. Investigators stated Siegling abruptly stopped, turned toward the officer and advanced while holding what appeared to be a knife.

Police said the officer repeatedly ordered Siegling to stop and drop the knife, but Siegling continued advancing. The officer then fired, striking Siegling.

Detectives later determined Siegling had a butterfly training knife. 

Siegling was taken to a local hospital, where he remained in critical condition with a gunshot wound.

At the time of the shooting, Siegling had two outstanding felony warrants. Additionally, court records reveal a lengthy criminal history for him.
