Albuquerque –
Today, a jury convicted David Haro and Joshua Dominguez of second-degree murder in the March 15, 2024 killing of Sarah Dimas. Christine Jablonsky and Larry Hansen prosecuted the case.
BACKSTORY:
According to police and court records, Haro, Dominguez and Destiny Marquez confronted Dimas after she was found near Dominguez’s vehicle in the 1900 block of Broadway Blvd. NE. Surveillance video showed three people physically beating, stomping, and stabbing Dimas before a Honda CR-V struck her at least twice, per the criminal complaint. The violent attack on Dimas allegedly lasted nearly 70 seconds. Investigators later discovered blood on the driver’s side of the Honda.
Dominguez and Destiny Marquez were arrested the day of the murder by the Albuquerque Police Department. According to the criminal complaint, Dominguez and Marquez were engaged.
Haro, Marquez’s father, was arrested April 1, 2024, after APD homicide detectives located him at an Albuquerque apartment complex.
When APD searched the apartment connected to one of the suspects, detectives found three knives inside the dishwasher, a box cutter with dried blood, blood droplets throughout the apartment, and shoes that appeared to have been recently cleaned and were still wet. The complaint noted that the dishwasher with the knives “appeared to have been recently run.”
Marquez, the third defendant, pleaded guilty in November 2024 to second-degree murder and tampering with evidence. Her attempt to withdraw the plea was denied in January 2026, and court records indicate she appealed that decision to a higher court.
“I am incredibly proud of the work of our prosecution team and their commitment to seeing this case through,” Bernalillo County District Attorney Sam Bregman said. “They stayed focused, continued fighting for justice, and never lost sight of the victim and her family. This verdict is a testament to their perseverance, dedication and unwavering commitment to holding those responsible for violent crimes accountable.”
Sentencing for Dominguez and Haro will be announced at a later date.
