ALBUQUERQUE – APD detectives have charged five teens who were involved in a deadly shooting after attempting to rob homeless people for gas money. The victim, Marlene Gutierrez, was shot and killed during the attempted robbery on June 10 near Central Ave. and Zuni Rd., S.E.
Four of the teens – Terrance Morris, 17, Ean Spencer, 16, Jeffrey Moore, 16, and Victoria Belmudez-Candelaria, 16 — were arrested this week.
The fifth teen — Jazelle Dudley, 17 — is still outstanding.
The group of teens were reportedly cruising around Albuquerque in the early morning hours of June 10 when they ran low on gas. A witness said three of the teens decided to rob homeless people for money to buy gas.
The teens stopped their vehicle near an alleyway south of 9201 Central Ave., N.E. Two of the teens, Morris and Spencer, exited the vehicle armed with handguns. They approached people in the alley and demanded money.
During the attempted robbery, someone exited a nearby travel trailer and fired gunshots at Morris and Spencer, who returned gunfire with their guns. After retreating, Morris went back and fired two more rounds. The group of teens fled the scene in their vehicle.
During the exchange of gunfire, Marlene Gutierrez, 35, was struck by a bullet. A witness said Gutierrez yelled, “you hit me,” and “it hurts.” The witness described one of the two teens as a young African American male wearing a fuzzy red wig, a mask and all dark clothing, carrying two handguns. The witness said the teens yelled, “empty your pockets, we’re going to rob your asses,” and “give me your shit,” just prior to the shooting.
The teens are charged with an open count of murder, attempt to commit a felony to wit armed robbery, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, conspiracy to wit armed robbery, tampering with evidence and unlawful possession of a handgun.
