Albuquerque –
On May 14, 2025, at approximately 4:00 AM, Albuquerque Fire Rescue was dispatched to a reported structure fire at an abandoned commercial building located at 1803 6th Street NW, near 6th and Haines. The first-arriving unit encountered a well-involved fire in a large abandoned commercial structure, with the blaze showing from the north and east sides of the building.
Due to multiple fires, structural compromise including a partial collapse, and unstable flooring conditions, incident command transitioned to a defensive strategy to ensure firefighter safety.
Crews achieved fire knockdown and brought the incident under control within approximately 10 minutes of arrival. The structure sustained significant fire damage.

No civilian or firefighter injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
This structure has a history of multiple fire incidents, which have significantly compromised its structural integrity. Albuquerque Fire Rescue has previously responded to eight significant working fires at this location including on January 29, 2025; January 4, 2025; August 8, 2024; and April 11, 2023. This commercial building has been abandoned since at least 2021. According to AFR’s PIO Lt. Jason Fejer the building “is scheduled for demo but the scope of the project due to the size, damage and previous use has delayed the demo.”
