Albuquerque –

On June 8, 2024, around 4:38 PM, reports of a possible structure fire led Albuquerque Fire Rescue to an abandoned commercial building at 1803 6th St NW, near 6th Street & Haines NW.

Engine 4 arrived on the scene of an abandoned commercial structure with flames and smoke visible on the south side. Engine 4 took command and initially initiated an offensive strategy for a quick attack. The strategy switched to a defensive operation due to multiple previous fires, a collapse, and access issues at this building. According to AFR, Sqaud 2 began forcing entry into the structure. Ladder 1 set up the aerial for defensive operations. Engine 1 and Rescue 1 made access on the west side of the structure. Engine 6 went to the south side.

AFR brought the fire under control within 35 minutes of arriving. The dilapidated, abandoned structure sustained significant damage. The cause of the fire was determined to be incendiary (arson).

No injuries to civilians or firefighters were reported.

This building is no stranger to fires. On April 11, 2023, at around 12:20PM, a large fire was reported at this property. AFR was on scene for this fire for over four hours and 15 units responded.
