AFR Fighting “Working Fire” in the 4300 Block of Lomas

Albuquerque, NM –

At approximately 6:55 PM, emergency services received reports of a fire at 4330 Lomas Blvd NE. This address is for Hurricane’s Cafe. However, when Albuquerque Fire Rescue arrived, the structure involved was not the historic Hurricane’s, but properties in the 4300 block of Lomas. There are approximately five to six businesses in this strip center.

As far as we can ascertain, ten units from Albuquerque Fire Rescue are already on the scene. They are assessing the structural integrity of the flat roof, ensuring the fire hasn’t spread to the roof, and reporting that some of the flames have been extinguished.

If we learn more about this fire, we will update you.

Update:

On 03/12/2024 at 9:02 PM, AFR posted on their Facebook page about this fire, which said:

“On 3/12/24 at 1858hrs Albuquerque Fire Rescue was dispatched to 4300 Lomas NE for an outside fire in the alley. Upon Engine 11’s arrival they found that an outside fire had extended into the interior of a strip mall. Engine 11 called for a full first Alarm dispatch for a working structure fire and began to attack the fire. 12 more AFR units were dispatched and ultimately the fire was brought under control within 23 minutes.

Fire damage to the structure was contained to the back of one store with smoke damage in neighboring stores. Crews were able to prevent fire from extending throughout the strip mall. No injuries of civilians or firefighters reported. AFR Fire Investigators are on scene to determine the cause and origin of the fire. A cause has not been determined and no additional information available at this time”
