Albuquerque – APD opened a new internal investigation today and has temporarily reassigned the target of the investigation, an unnamed lieutenant in the Internal Affairs Division, to another position within the department.
APD’s Chief Harold Medina had earlier last month designated Commander Kyle Hartsock to oversee the ever growing internal investigation. This latest inquiry will encompass the conduct of current and former DWI officers, as well as probe into the allegations involving the lieutenant. Additionally, it will include an investigation into the Commander of Internal Affairs Mark Landavaso, who was recently placed on administrative leave.
Chief Medina emphasized the importance of integrity and cooperation in these investigations, stating that the department is committed to thoroughly investigating all allegations without bias.
“We will leave no stone unturned with this investigation,” Chief Medina said.
Since January 19, 2024, five officers have been placed on administrative leave, with one Lieutenant Justin Hunt resigning since then. At this stage, none of these officers on leave have actually been formally accused or charged in relation to the ongoing investigations.
