The Albuquerque Police Department (APD) is investigating a homicide that occurred overnight in the Southeast Area Command.

Shortly after 10:00 pm on Sunday, June 9, 2024, officers responded to reports of a shooting near 8307 Central Ave. N.E. Upon their arrival, officers found a male victim suffering from a gunshot wound. Officers and AFR personnel attempted life-saving measures. The individual was then transported to UNMH, where he died from his injuries.

The Albuquerque Police Department’s homicide unit is currently investigating the incident.

Investigators are busy after two homicides were reported in Albuquerque within the last 26 hours. The other weekend homicide occurred around 7:30 PM on June 8th at Indiana and Cochiti.

Other Homicides On or Immediately Near Central for 2024

This is the seventh homicide on or immediately near Central from Florida St to Utah St.

  • On January 17, 2024, Officers in the Southeast Area Command conducted an investigation into a shooting which took place at 7817 Central Ave. NE. A report of a female who had been shot was responded to by officers at approximately 5:20 PM. Upon their arrival, officers found a moribund female. The female passed away due to her injuries. This homicide is number four for 2024.
  • Around 6:20 PM on 03/04/2024, officers from the Albuquerque Police Department responded to the area of Central and Indiana after receiving multiple calls about individuals shot in the area. The man who was shot multiple times has died from his injuries. For 2024, this is homicide investigation number 17.
  • Earlier in the evening on April 1, 2024, the Albuquerque Police Department was dispatched to a shots fired call at the Loma Verde Motel, located at 7503 Central Ave. NE. When officers arrived, they discovered an adult male with at least one gunshot wound and transported him to UNMH. At UNMH, the victim died as a result of the gunshot wound. This is homicide number 27 for the Albuquerque Metro area for 2024.
  • Around 9:05 PM on April 19, 2024, shots rang out at the Cinnamon Tree Apartments, which is near Central and Alcazar. The male victim from this shooting died at UNMH. This is homicide number 35 for 2024.
  • The Albuquerque Police Department responded to a report of shots fired in the area of Central and Indiana on Saturday, May 18th. When officers arrived, they found an individual with at least one gunshot wound. We learned that the person from this shooting died at UNMH. APD arrested someone in this murder who reportedly boasted “I have control over somebody’s life.” For 2024, this is homicide investigation 41.
  • Around 7:30 PM on June 8th, 2024, numerous shots rang out at Indiana and Cochiti. Witnesses reported hearing as many as eight shots. At least two people were shot, with one person reportedly shot in the chest and another in the leg. One of the shooting victims has reportedly died from their wounds. This is homicide 48 for the Albuquerque area for 2024.
  • Homicide number 49 occurred at 8307 Central Ave.

  1. Maybe they should put the three that murdered my son in jail and it might help on some of the killings, smuggling in fentanyl and smuggling illegal guns. I don’t know why in the world anybody would want to be there in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Good families need to get their kids and loved ones out of there. My prayers are for the police officers too, and their families
