APD Captures Car Thief Suspect after Car Chase and Foot Chase

A white Ford pickup truck can be seen disabled by police, suspects were seen fleeing from it on foot

Albuquerque – This afternoon at around 1:30PM, Albuquerque Police Department officers followed a stolen truck throughout the city closely monitored by APD’s fixed wing plane. The vehicle was eventually disabled by police at Broadway and Kathryn SE. All of the suspect occupants fled from the stolen truck on foot. Police could be seen closing off the area and setting up a perimeter so that officers and tactical units could do a search for the suspects. San Jose Elementary school directly south nearby was eventually evacuated for safety precautions while police searched the area for these violent suspects. Police learned one suspect the suspected driver had broke into an unoccupied home and was barricaded inside but he eventually came out and surrendered to police. He could be seen being escorted by police wearing a red shirt and hat. One employee of “Mexican Lindo” had been hiding inside of the Mexican restaurant the entire time and he also came out unharmed when police asked him to come out. Eventually the final suspect was discovered hiding inside the boost mobile business. SWAT team, and tactical officers were able to negotiate a safe evacuation for this final suspect.

APD detectives and SWAT officers arrested three men today following a vehicle pursuit in which a truck rammed a detective’s vehicle and was later disabled by officers in the area of Broadway and Southern.

 

APD says that their Auto Theft detectives initially spotted a stolen, white Chrysler 300 in the area of Gibson Blvd. and I-25 around 11:30 a.m. Additional detectives and APD’s Air Support followed the vehicle to the area Delamar Ave and 2nd St., N.W. in the North Valley where passengers were dropped off at a separate Ford F-250 with a stolen license plate. Detectives recognized one of the individuals as Randy Lopez-Garcia, who was known to have felony warrants for his arrest.

 

Detectives followed the truck, which was later discovered to be stolen out of Corrales. The driver was later identified as Gildardo Peralez, 28, who stopped multiple times and burglarized vehicles. 

 

Detectives used a vehicle-apprehension device to attempt to stop the stolen truck at Wyoming Blvd and Constitution Ave., N.E. The truck was able to strike the detective’s vehicle as two detectives took cover behind the vehicle. The stolen truck fled at a high rate of speed and was later disabled by officers and abandoned as the suspects fled the area on foot in the area of 1725 Broadway Blvd., S.E.

 

Two of the suspects were arrested shortly after the pursuit and the third was hiding inside a market. SWAT officers eventually took him into custody.

 

Randy Lopez-Garcia, 33, Gildardo Peralez, 28, and Andres Loya, 39, are facing several charges relate to the stolen vehicles, fleeing from police officers and arrest warrants.
