Albuquerque –
A Tijeras man is in custody after court records reveal that he intentionally rammed his pickup truck into the homes, garage doors, and vehicles of several former coworkers in Albuquerque after being terminated from his job.
Dean Billy Smith Jr., 32, has been charged with two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, five counts of criminal damage to property exceeding $1,000, and reckless driving, according to an arrest warrant affidavit filed in Bernalillo County Metropolitan Court.
A criminal complaint says Smith’s destructive spree from August 14 through August 17, 2026. On August 17 alone, Smith was involved in four separate incidents at four different residences across the city, allegedly using his red 2020 Ford F-150 as a weapon or means of destruction shortly after being fired from his job. During the confrontations, he allegedly careened into other vehicles, attempted to run over former coworkers or their significant others, and plowed his truck through garage doors.
The first incident was reported to the Albuquerque Police Department on August 14. Court records say Smith backed his Ford F-150 pickup into a carport, damaging a black Honda truck parked at a residence near Indian School Rd and Juan Tabo Blvd NE.
The homeowner advised police that Smith backed his truck into the carport, hitting the black Honda truck and causing front-end damage. The homeowner also stated to APD officers that “he did not know why Dean Smith, Jr. would do this.”
During a separate encounter on August 17, the same resident received a motion alert on their phone from a camera, and stepped outside to find Smith had reversed his F-150 into the carport a second time, coming within four feet of him. He told APD officers he feared for his safety after two incidents involving Smith. An independent witness told officers the truck driver, Smith, appeared to be attempting to run over the resident.

Also on August 17, at a residence located near Parsifal St and Montgomery Blvd NE, Smith allegedly backed his truck through a closed garage door. The impact set off a chain reaction, pushing a maroon Chrysler minivan into the garage before Smith pulled forward and reversed into a Nissan Xterra, the complaint said.
The Xterra was then pushed through a second garage door frame into a brown Ford pickup. Court documents say damage to the property and vehicles exceeded $7,500. The homeowner at this location identified “the driver of the red Ford F-150 as Dean Smith, Jr., who used to work with her husband and was fired earlier today.“

At another home near Benavides Rd and Del Monte Trail SW on August 17, a complaint alleges Smith drove past a female resident at high speed, stopped, then rapidly reversed toward her. She jumped out of the way before the truck crashed through the garage door, knocking it off its tracks. Property damage was estimated at $2,500. The complaint states this homeowner had discovered the driver of the truck was Smith, who she knew from his coming over to her residence for gatherings. The complaint says she told officers that “the driver of the truck was Dean Smith, Jr.” She went on to tell police she knew of Smith “from his coming over to her residence for gatherings, as Dean Smith, Jr. used to work with her husband.“

In the final reported incident on August 17, Smith allegedly backed into a garage door multiple times at another residence near Moon St and Osuna Rd NE, knocking the door off its tracks and pushing a silver Toyota sedan into a workbench. He then pulled forward and backed up again, striking a silver Nissan sedan. The complaint states that the combined damage at this home totaled approximately $10,000. The homeowner in this incident advised APD officers that his “former co-worker, Dean Smith, Jr., had been fired by his supervisor earlier in the day, came to his home and used his red Ford F-150 to back into his garage door several times.”

Smith was charged with five counts of criminal damage to property over $1,000, two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and reckless driving. He was booked into MDC on August 18.
