Albuquerque –
Late on Friday, homicide detectives from the Albuquerque Police Department charged Jevon Thomas in connection with two separate shootings this week near Montgomery Blvd and Carlisle Blvd NE. Authorities have accused Thomas of fatally shooting a woman on Tuesday and critically injuring a man on Friday in an early morning shooting.
Thomas, 28, allegedly shot and killed a woman around 5:20 PM on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, while she was inside her vehicle. Detectives are withholding the woman’s identity as they work to notify her family.
After the shooting, the woman’s vehicle struck a curb near 4815 Carlisle Blvd. NE. She died at the scene from a gunshot wound. Officers found a holster and a spent bullet casing about 50 yards east of the crash site. Detectives later learned that Thomas had the woman’s cell phone after the shooting, and investigators tracked the phone from the shooting scene toward nearby apartments.
While investigating the homicide, police responded to another shooting early Friday, December 12, 2025, at the Atrium Apartments, located at 4200 Montgomery Blvd. NE. Officers found an adult male victim who reported that an unknown suspect shot him. Emergency responders transported the victim to a hospital, where he remains in critical but stable condition. We had previously reported on this shooting incident yesterday.
Detectives reviewed ShotSpotter data and surveillance video to capture footage from the time of the shooting. They also determined that the shooting location matched phone data from the cell phone taken from the homicide victim three days earlier. Investigators noted that the suspect in the video matched the description of the homicide suspect.
As homicide detectives canvassed the apartment complex, they spotted a man matching the suspect’s description from the videos. Investigators identified the man as Thomas, who had an active arrest warrant. Thomas was carrying a handgun of the same caliber used in both shootings.
Detectives questioned Thomas about the incidents, but he denied any involvement.
Police booked Thomas late Friday into the Metro Detention Center on charges including an open count of murder, armed robbery with a deadly weapon, shooting at or from a motor vehicle resulting in death, tampering with evidence in a homicide, felon in possession of a firearm, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon resulting in great bodily harm, and resisting, evading, or obstructing an officer.
Due to system maintenance on New Mexico Courts, we are currently unable to access any records to determine whether Thomas has a prior criminal history. In addition to the outage, we are unable to access the criminal complaint for this arrest.
