Chief Medina holds a press conference about the latest officer involved shooting tonight

SW ABQ – The Albuquerque Police Department have been involved in an officer involved shooting (OIS) in SW Albuquerque near the 2200 block of Odessa Court SW, which is near Gibson Blvd SW and Messina Dr SW.

During a 6pm press conference with APD Chief Medina and staff, we learned that this OIS unfolded first as a domestic argument between a father and son. The son was allegedly the aggressor in the family dispute. Police were called to assist the family with the domestic situation.

When officers arrived on scene, the suspect was armed with at least two knives. Officers attempted to utilize less than lethal force, but it had no effect on the knife wielding suspect. Three officers reportedly opened fire on the suspect. A Multi Agency Task Force is now investigating the OIS. Thankfully no officers were harmed. According to APD, the individual involved is deceased on the roadway.

This is the 10th deadly officer involved shooting for APD in 2022.
