Albuquerque –

Late last week, the New Mexico Supreme Court denied Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham’s teams attempt to block e-mails from being released to the public. After reading the un-redacted emails we have learned how shady a government agency can be when it comes to blocking first amendment rights. It turns out that the MLG lawyers and officials talked about ABQ RAW and how the administration was trying their hardest to block access to ABQ RAW to their public events. In a 5-0 vote, the Supreme Court denied the states attempt to block the release of emails in their RAW form as written.

For context, ABQ RAW was scheduled to go to trial in state district court in mid-September against the Governor’s Office following a six-year battle to secure equal access to press lists and official events. Second Judicial District Judge Beatrice Brickhouse ruled the e-mails must be released before the trial. In the 11th hour, Governor Lujan Grisham’s legal team filed an appeal to the New Mexico Supreme Court to stop the release of the e-mails. It put a halt to our trial and everything was put on hold again.

However on October 30th, 2026, the un-redacted e-mails arrived in our e-mail box after a supreme court official announced the courts decision to us directly. The emails revealed a clear planning and implementation of making it impossible for ABQ RAW to obtain access to media events held by the Governors office. One e-mail had the Governor’s team even wanting to call other local journalists to see if ABQ RAW was even a legit outlet.

Governor Lujan Grisham’s administration started to block media access to ABQ RAW back in 2020 when we tried to attend virtual press conferences during COVID. The blocks continued when COVID restrictions became more lax and press conferences were held at various locations around the state. ABQ RAW would try to attend but was never given the unpublished secret information on where the press conference were actually being held.

We have had six years of constant roadblocks in trying to gain access to Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham. It has taken many years for our news staff and our legal team to fight for our constitutional rights to cover the Governor. We now have a new trial date set for April 2027 however Lujan Grisham will no longer be the Governor of New Mexico.
