Albuquerque –
44-year-old career felon, Richard Blackbird-Vigil of Albuquerque, was caught once again driving a stolen car and having drugs in his possession.
On April 20th, 2026, Blackbird-Vigil was observed inside a 2015 Cadillac XTS driving in Northeast Albuquerque. According to a criminal complaint, a sergeant from APD followed the stolen vehicle, and a GPS device was deployed on the vehicle.
Blackbird-Vigil drove around Albuquerque as police followed him. The vehicle was found abandoned on the 2100 block of Gold Ave SE near the UNM area. The car was locked, and no one was inside it. Police saturated the area to find the driver.
Blackbird-Vigil thought it would be a great idea to hide in plain sight behind a police cruiser while they searched for him. Police quickly took him into custody. He officially placed last in the Hide-in-Seek Championship game on this day.
As Blackbird-Vigil was being led to a police cruiser he yelled out for “Patricia!” It is unclear if this was a family member or lover.
Blackbird-Vigil was charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. The auto theft charge might come later as officers were not able to make contact with the owner to see if Blackbird-Vigil was allowed to use the vehicle.
His record dates back to 2001 ranging from sex crimes, deadly weapon charges, and stealing of other cars.
