Albuquerque –
The Albuquerque Police Department and the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office were involved in a felony investigation that included counts of homicide, shooting from a motor vehicle, and aggravated fleeing from law enforcement.
On April 18th, 2026, at approximately 6:50 PM, Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a reported shooting with a victim in the area of 1565 Airway Rd SW, Albuquerque, New Mexico.
A criminal complaint filed says two vehicles were in front of 1565 Airway RD SW, when shots rang out and struck an innocent victim. There were at least seven rounds fired at this location. A man unrelated to the vehicles across the street from him was showing off his new motorcycle to a friend when he was struck by the gunfire.
The people identified as the road ragers were Rory Horowitz, Ellyssa Salazar, and Antonio Tapia. Tapia indicated in the criminal complaint that he is the “baby daddy” to Salazar. The complaint does not indicate what was said that escalated to gunfire erupting.
A witness identified Horowitz as the shooter and Salazar was in the car with him. Witnesses also stated that Salazar likes to visit El Paso, Texas.
The complaint goes on to say Tapia was taken into custody later in the day when he fled from an Albuquerque Police Department officer attempting a traffic stop. The officer was able to cross reference the license plate to his home. He was taken into custody for that incident. His car had indications of being struck by gunfire.
According to a Bernalillo County Sheriff’s office social media post, Horowitz and Salazar were taken into custody by the United States Marshals Service, El Paso Police Department, and law enforcement partners in Texas, Horowitz and Salazar were located at a residence in El Paso, Texas and taken into custody.
The innocent shooting victim has been identified as 21-year-old Roberto Carlos Pineda Arriaza.
Horowitz is charged with 7 counts of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, homicide, and shooting from a motor vehicle. Salazar is charged with harboring or aiding a felon and tampering with evidence. “Baby Daddy” Tapia is charged with aggravated fleeing a law enforcement officer and reckless driving.
Horowitz has a prior reckless driving charge. Salazar has a few traffic violations and a case for buying alcohol with a fake ID. Tapia has a lengthy criminal record with DWIs and battery on household members.
The Mitsubishi previously identified in BCSO’s original release has still not been located, and detectives are continuing to search for that vehicle. If you have any information about the whereabouts of the Mitsubishi or any other relevant details about this case, please contact the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office. You can do this by submitting an anonymous tip through Tip411.
Editors Note: Earlier we had called out BCSO for not being transparent in their investigations. We stated this in error. We received information that a man had recently died as a result of an errant bullet fired from a domestic dispute between unrelated parties to the victim. It turns out the person who died was the same man from this story and not a new unreported homicide. BCSO let us know our error and we took the post down.
