UPDATE:

APD sent an email saying:

APD’s Fatal Crash Team responded to a fatal crash at the intersection of Tramway Boulevard and Indian School Road involving three vehicles.

A red Volvo was traveling southbound on Tramway Blvd, approaching the intersection of Indian School Rd. The Volvo proceeded through the intersection on a red light and collided with a Ford truck that was facing northbound, waiting to turn on to westbound Indian School Rd. Witnesses stated the red Volvo was traveling at a high rate of speed, weaving in traffic and the driver appeared to be slumped over the steering wheel. The third vehicle involved was a box truck that was facing northbound on Tramway Boulevard and the side of the vehicle was sideswiped as a result of the crash.

The male driver of the red Volvo was pronounced deceased on scene. A female passenger of the Volvo and the male driver of the Ford truck were both transported to a local hospital in stable condition.

Based on witness information and evidence on scene, speed appears to be a factor and it is believed that the driver of the Volvo experienced a medical episode prior to the crash.

This is an ongoing investigation and further information will be released when available.

APD did say there were only three vehicles involved in this incident, but while on scene we observed 5 vehicles in a car crash. It is not clear if the two other vehicles who were damaged happened after the initial crash.

  1. If a collision of high speed, granted the driver might have had a medical issue, and the driver died on scene, why would the passenger still be alive???
