Albuquerque –
On Monday, November 25th, 2024, at approximately 7:03 PM, Albuquerque Fire Rescue responded to 3017 Camino De La Sierra NE for reports of a potential structure fire involving a single-family dwelling.
Engine 8 (E8) arrived at the scene and observed smoke and fire within the dwelling. Engine 8 declared a working attic fire and deployed multiple hose lines to the interior of the structure. Albuquerque Fire Rescue deployed multiple units to the scene, including AR1 and AR2, BC2 and BC3 (Battalion Chiefs), E8, E9, E12, and E16 (Engine companies), L9 and L13 (Ladder trucks), PIO (Public Information Officer), and specialized units R8, R16 (Rescue teams), and SQ3 (Squad company). New Mexico Gas and the PNM were also requested.
While crews diligently worked to locate and extinguish the fire, a comprehensive search of the home was conducted, and no occupants were discovered. The fire had extensively spread throughout the void space, rendering interior operations unfeasible due to the severity of the damage to the structural roof members. Consequently, crews were forced to evacuate the structure due to the intense heat and structural integrity concerns. The fire was successfully extinguished, and crews remained on scene for several hours to ensure complete control. Fire watch was conducted all through the night and Engine 8 is back on scene to ensure that all hot spots are extinguished.
Thankfully, there were no reports of civilian or firefighter injuries. The residence is currently uninhabitable.
The fire’s cause has been determined to be accidental, arising during ongoing home repairs. Further details are pending investigation.
