NMSP Investigating Fatal Crash on I-25 NB

Albuquerque –

The New Mexico State Police are investigating a fatal crash on I-25 northbound just north of Paseo del Norte. At the scene, a red SUV was observed having crashed into the concrete jersey barrier. The vehicle’s airbags, including the side curtain airbags, had all deployed.

Public Service Aides from the Albuquerque Police Department were present, assisting with traffic control. At the time of this posting, according to NM DOT, I-25 NB has reportedly been partially reopened. However, drivers might see the right two lanes still closed and the on-ramp to I-25 NB may also be blocked by PSAs (see the photo below).

The cause of the SUV crash is currently unclear. Authorities have yet to disclose whether the driver experienced a medical episode, was distracted, or was impaired. We will provide updates as more information becomes available.
