Albuquerque –
On July 13th, 2024, the Albuquerque Police Department received numerous ShotSpotter activations in the Juan Tabo Blvd corridor. Shortly after, an SUV crashed into a Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Department vehicle, leading to a foot chase. Two suspects were taken into custody in the Olive Garden parking lot. The suspects are 20-year-olds Caleb Estrada and Elias Sandoval, both from Albuquerque.
According to a criminal complaint, Estrada and Sandoval told police they were fleeing from a blue Camaro that was shooting at them and they were shooting back in self defense. They told police that an incident started at an apartment complex when Estrada said they were “kicking it with some females.” An unknown incident happened with two other males and shots rang out.
The shootout continued down the Juan Tabo corridor, and bullets flew into the food truck, Family Traditions 505 Flavors. One of the owners said:
“They didn’t shoot each other. They shot our food truck and our truck that we used to pull it with. the damage to both of them is pretty significant, and it’s going to take a lot of repair work. So a lot of time to repair and a lot of money to repair it. For somebody’s stupidity? I’m glad they were caught.”
The bullets hit their food truck and the truck that pulls it. The owner says the damage from the bullets has rendered both the truck and food truck inoperable. The co-owners of the food truck were close to death, with the bullets being inches away from where they were.
“It was it was a shell shock for sure. Once we snapped that we almost died in the trailer. You know, one of the bullets, if I was about three inches, four inches taller, I would have been shot right in the head. If my wife would have been standing up, she would have been shot right in the head. You guys were fighting over girls. I mean, there’s plenty of them. They’re pretty smart. You guys, you guys destroy this. This is our income. This is what we worked hard to achieve. And you guys took it in a matter of seconds.“
According to the criminal complaint, the suspects in the blue Camaro were detained at a tire shop on Central and California. They were identified as Oliver Peralta, Antonio Acosta, Izabel Chacon, and Jazmin Anesi. They were questioned and later released, but charges could still be filed against them. The two females claimed they didn’t see anything. The complaint concluded by stating that Peralta and Acosta could face charges.
The food truck owner wants harsh penalties for the criminals that caused chaos on that Saturday.
“You need to be held accountable. If they get a slap on the hand, they’re more liable to do it again. Maybe not the same type, but it could escalate to something bigger. I mean, they they could have killed several people that day for nothing. I just want them held accountable.”
We will update the story if any more charges are filed against other individuals.
ABQ RAW covered this Wild West of a shootout as it was happening. You can read more HERE and HERE.
Sadly, this is Albuquerque where the current administration / judges love criminals and the un-housed. They will be let go with nothing more than a slap on the hand if anything.
