Off Duty APD Officer Busted for Drunk Driving and Speeding

Albuquerque –

On December 26th, 2024, a Bernalillo County Sheriff’s deputy was patrolling the SW part of Albuquerque and saw a vehicle going 80MPH in a 45MPH zone. The deputy caught up with the speeding vehicle and conducted a traffic stop. Inside of the stopped vehicle was off-duty Albuquerque Police Officer Truitt Bushnell.

Bushnell acknowledged the reason for the stop by the deputy, and soon after, the deputy was able to smell an odor of alcohol.

Bushnell said he could not do the field sobriety tests due to injuries sustained during his military and law enforcement careers. The deputy was still able to perform alternate tests where Bushnell performed poorly. He was taken to BCSO’s mobile DWI RV for further tests and the off duty officer refused to give breath samples to the deputy.

Bushnell was booked into MDC on aggravated DWI, speeding, and failure to maintain lanes.

Bushnell was part of a recent officer involved shooting back on August 17th, 2024, where he discharged his firearm while trying to apprehend a shoplifting suspect. The suspect was killed during the incident by APD officers when he raised a firearm towards SWAT officers.

  1. Nothing serious will happen to him.
    “Back the blue”
    “He’s a veteran.”
“He’s not a danger to society”
Plea bargain. Probation plus fines plus alcohol awareness classes.
Back on the job before we know it.

  2. Only if he’s one of Sleepy Medinas boys. If he is they will hide him inside the office or the shooting range till it blows over then comes the promotion. Viscous circle with the Medina boys.

  3. “Bushnell said he could not do the field sobriety tests due to injuries sustained during his military and law enforcement careers.”
I can’t believe they even suggested saying that, attempting to sell that b.s.!! As a combat Veteran I am so embarrassed and ashamed, they would even try to pull that. 80 in a 45, as if he got to do what every he wanted, and no concern as to drinking and driving. Nobody is safe here, in Dem ran “Tomorrow Land.”

  4. Great idea, for an e- scooter patrol. However some of the deputy chiefs, Majors, 1st commanders, commanders deputy commanders should come out of the fifth floor and patrol on the e-scooter downtown area. Maybe we could even get a 40 hour work week out of Medinas personal Bi&&& Commander and Chief of staff Mike Hernandez. Doubt it
