Off-Duty Police Officer Responds to Three-Car Crash, Renders Aid to Crash Victims

Albuquerque –

Just before 8:40 PM, a three-vehicle crash occurred near 114th St SW and Central Ave NW. Reportedly, an off-duty officer from the Albuquerque Police Department was leaving the shooting range when he came upon the crash.

When the off-duty officer exited his patrol unit to check on the vehicle’s occupants, in one car he reportedly located two individuals with facial injuries. In another car, he located what sounds to be a family; at least one child inside of the car had significant, life-threatening injuries.

Bernalillo County Fire Rescue was dispatched to the scene. Albuquerque Fire Rescue also sent Engine 14 and Rescue 14.

BCSO will handle the crash investigation, as this is technically county area.

The area of 114th St SW and Central Ave NW is going to be closed as police and emergency personnel access the area.

UPDATE:

BCSO posted the following information on X:

“Central ave is closed in both directions between 114th ST and 110th ST due to a fatal crash. Please use alternate routes if you are traveling as this closure is expected to last for a few hours.”
