Albuquerque –

APD SWAT officers took a final suspect into custody at 5 a.m. after the individual exited a home in the 10200 block of Arvada Ave., N.E., which is near Eubank Blvd., and Menaul Blvd. The SWAT activation was related to the officer-involved shooting that occurred earlier this morning a few blocks away on Eubank, just north of Menaul.

Sunday night at around 9:45pm officers responded to an armed robbery at the Walgreens located at Menaul and Eubank N.E. Two male suspects one armed with a rifle robbed individuals inside the store and took cash from the store at gunpoint.

Robbery detectives entered the chat and were able to track the cash and stolen items with the help of GPS tracking devices. This led detectives to a residence on Arvada NE. Detectives conducted surveillance and saw one suspect armed with the rifle and another male exit the home. An additional robbery suspect remained inside the home. The two suspects who left the home on foot were seen walking through a nearby apartment complex. The armed suspect looked out while the other male suspect attempted to open the doors to several vehicles at the complex.

Detectives and officers eventually confronted the two suspects. One suspect fled on foot, while the armed suspect decided to point his rifle at detectives. Two officers responded appropriately and fired their weapons, striking and killing the suspect. The suspect who fled was eventually captured and detained.

While officers secured the shooting scene at Eubank and Woodland Ave., officers entered the home on Arvada and safely took two children out of the residence. The stubborn robbery suspect refused to exit the home. APD gave up with the peaceful tactics and called out its SWAT team to take over the incident. SWAT attempted to negotiate with the suspect and he eventually exited the home without further incident.

The Multi-Agency Task Force will continue to investigate the officer-involved shooting late into the day.

UPDATE:

APD investigators identified the armed robbery suspect who was shot and killed by police overnight. Daniel Gino Harris (1/10/05), was a suspect in a robbery Sunday night and produced a firearm when detectives confronted him this morning at 12:30 a.m. Officers fired their weapons, fatally wounding Harris, who died at the scene.

The second robbery suspect was identified as Gregory Armstead, (March 2006). Armstead was charged with armed robbery and conspiracy to commit armed robbery.

A third subject, an 18-year-old male, who fled from police when they confronted Harris was not charged with any crimes.

  1. Outstanding. Clean up the neighborhood. It’s everyday over in that area of Morris, Eubank, Candelaria and Snowheights being overrun by scumbags or kids of scumbags. Enough is enough. Come around and find out where we live. Good job APD smoke ‘em

  2. Thanks to the Walgreens shift manager and cashier who were responsible for including a GPS tracking device with the stolen cash, these dirt bags got what they deserve. Props to APD and SWAT….
