Today, August 11, 2024, at around 8AM, the Albuquerque Police Department got a call about a shooting on the far southwest west mesa area near 122nd and Avalon Road SW. APD officers responded to the scene near the Flying J Truck Stop for reports about the shooting. APD found a person with a gunshot wound and already deceased on scene. The jurisdiction of the homicide was in Bernalillo County Sheriff’s area and APD handed the case over to BCSO detectives for follow-up.
BCSO confirmed they are working a homicide investigation in the area.
While on scene we observed BCSO Deputies and their homicide detectives at the Flying J truck stop briefing each other, on how they were going investigate the scene. Detectives used their standard non Timberline Edition four wheel drive trucks to get to the scene. We observed the scene to be about 600 feet south of the interstate 40 eastbound highway.
This is the 65th homicide of 2024 in the Albuquerque metro area.

On Wednesday, August 14th, 2024, the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office issued an update on this homicide which stated:
On the morning of August 11, 2024, at approximately 8:00 am, the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office was called to take over an investigation initiated by the Albuquerque Police Department. APD first responded to a report at the Flying J truck stop where a woman reported being assaulted and her acquaintance was shot. She guided APD to a location off 122nd St and Avalon Rd NW in the mesa, where they discovered 25-year-old Maikel Antonio Torrealba Romero deceased from at least one gunshot wound lying on the ground next to a vehicle.
The investigation was transferred to the Sheriff’s Office after we determined that the location fell within our jurisdiction. Our detectives processed the scene, collected evidence, and diligently followed up on leads. Through diligent investigative work, we identified two suspects related to this incident.
Adan Munoz, 28, was tracked by detectives and detained without incident later that evening. He was booked into the Metropolitan Detention Center on murder charges. His brother, Andi Parra, 27, is also in custody, facing charges of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.
