Albuquerque –
Just before 10:10 PM, officers with the Albuquerque Police Department and crews from Albuquerque Fire Rescue were dispatched to the area of Tramway Blvd NE and Candelaria Rd NE for a reported motor vehicle crash involving two pedestrians.
Albuquerque Fire Rescue transported at least one person to a local area hospital.
APD’s sworn PIO, Detective Chase Jewell, said the pedestrian transported sustained non-life-threatening injuries and is currently in stable condition.
Currently, Tramway Blvd is currently closed between Menaul Blvd NE and Comanche Rd as officers work the scene. As of this publication, the accident has not been classified as an APD’s Motor Unit call-out, according to Detective Jewell.
We will update this story as more information becomes available about the crash, the condition of those involved or accident investigation.
Editor note:
When the collision occurred, a bystander driving by the scene contacted us to say that one pedestrian had a head injury and another sustained road rash. While monitoring AFR’s scanner traffic, responders indicated that two individuals were injured, one with a head injury and another with road rash.
To ensure accuracy before publishing, we contacted APD to confirm the number of injured pedestrians, their conditions, and we asked if anyone was deceased on scene. APD initially advised that only one person was injured.
When asked whether this was an APD’s Motors call-out, officials advised that it was not.
Today, April 29, we were made aware of a social media post that the driver in this incident was arrested for great bodily harm by vehicle (dwi) and traffic-control signal legend/failure to obey signal.
A subsequent review of the criminal complaint indicates that two people were struck, both were taken to UNMH. One pedestrian sustained a fractured pelvis and facial lacerations. The other suffered road rash, which was not classified as “great bodily harm.”
