Albuquerque –

This afternoon just before 2:00 PM, a shooting was reported in the area of Grove St SE and Bell Ave SE. When officers from the Albuquerque Police Department arrived at the scene, they were informed that one individual had already been transported to the University of New Mexico Hospital with a gunshot wound to the chest.

The condition of the person shot is unknown.

APD officers searched the area for potential suspects and detained at least three individuals, including one male and two females. Their exact involvement is unknown. There is still a police presence in the area as officers continue to process the scene for evidence.

During this time, about 400 yards north of the shooting location, Mayor Tim Keller was hosting a press conference to discuss construction of the International District Library Park next to the library. The tax payer funded campaign stop touted bringing long-awaited park amenities to one of the City’s most diverse and historically significant neighborhoods.

When more is learned about this incident, we will update you.

UPDATE:

It’s believed that the person shot is expected to survive. The APD’s Gun Violence Reduction Unit (GVRU) has been called to investigate this shooting.

Around 6:22 PM, detectives and units stationed at the crime scene perimeter cleared the area.
