Albuquerque Fire Rescue’s Hazardous Materials Squad 3 and Engine 13 are assisting Bernalillo County Fire Rescue in response to a propane truck rollover. According to AFR, NM 217 is shut down at Gonzales Rd in both directions while the area is being cleared.
Two individuals from the truck have been taken to the hospital, one with critical injuries and the other with serious injuries. The New Mexico State Police is conducting an investigation due to the severity of the injuries.
Presently, emergency crews are transferring the propane from the overturned truck to another vehicle. According to AFR’s Lt. Jason Fejer, the truck was carrying 2800 pounds of propane. Fejer also stated that fire crews are monitoring an active leak. No evacuations are currently necessary as the wind is dispersing the vapor.
NMSP, AFR, and BCFR are asking the public to please avoid the area. Reportedly, the cleanup efforts will require significant time, and the crash investigation is ongoing.

BCFR provided an update on twitter which said:
“NM217 still closed @ MM3 in both directions as fuel from propane truck is safely burned off. Please avoid the area and seek alternate routes for the next 20-36hrs.”
BCFR also responded to a tweet and said this accident is located “about 7.2 miles south of NM333(Rt.66) between Gonzales and Alley Roads.“

The driver is my grampa his name is Chuck he’s doing better he has broken back, ribs and a collapsed lung hes breathing on his own and can move his legs and hes awake he can talk but not much with his lung but i hope he will be ok after a couple of weeks
