Just before 3:30 PM, officers with the Albuquerque Police Department responded to a single-vehicle crash on I-40 eastbound near Eubank. Albuquerque Fire Rescue also responded to the scene, their radio communications indicated this was a rollover accident.

At least one occupant reportedly suffered life-threatening injuries. First responders performed CPR at the scene, while emergency crews provided additional medical aid.

APD officers and Police Service Aides have closed northbound Eubank Blvd at Copper Ave. It is presently unknown if southbound Eubank is closed, but we are working to gather information.

APD has requested assistance from the New Mexico State Police and may close eastbound Interstate 40 at Wyoming Blvd as officers continue to investigate.

According to NMDOT/NMRoads, the right lane and right shoulder of eastbound I-40 at Eubank remains closed. Motorists should expect significant delays in the area and are encouraged to use alternate routes. Road closures are subject to change as the investigation expands.

Drivers are advised to expect delays and seek alternate routes.

UPDATE @4:22 PM:

After publication, officers closed Interstate 40 eastbound at Wyoming. The person injured in the crash later died from their injuries while being transported to a local hospital.

While on scene, we observed officers closing Eubank over I-40 and Interstate 40 eastbound at Wyoming, with traffic exiting onto Wyoming.

We also saw that there was a silver SUV that was involved in the single vehicle accident. The vehicle was near a tree. Police haven’t released if the silver SUV collided with the tree or how the tree is connected to the incident.

UPDATE @4:35 PM:

Officers are reopening Interstate 40 eastbound at Wyoming, though the right two lanes approaching Eubank and the Eubank off-ramp will remain closed during the investigation.

UPDATE @5:11 PM:

There is a crash on interstate 40 eastbound near Carlisle which involves the closure of the center lane.

UPDATE @8:39 PM:

The Albuquerque Police Department provided an update on this fatal crash which stated:

“APD’s Fatal Crash Investigation Team responded today to a crash involving a single vehicle at Eubank Blvd. N.E. and the I-40 eastbound on-ramp.

The vehicle involved was a silver Toyota 4Runner. A preliminary investigation indicated the Toyota was traveling at a slow speed eastbound on the I-40 eastbound off-ramp and proceeded through the intersection of Eubank Blvd NE. The vehicle continued through the intersection at a slow speed, drove over the curb, and traveled down the embankment toward I-40 eastbound traffic.

The Toyota came to final rest on the shoulder of I-40 eastbound. The driver, an adult male, was transported to the hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.

This remains an ongoing investigation. All evidence located on scene was collected and documented by detectives.”
