Downtown Albuquerque – Around 10:00 AM, officers from the Albuquerque Police Department responded to a suspicious package found near a loading dock at 201 3rd Street NW.

Third Street and the surrounding area will experience closures for both vehicle and foot traffic as officers work to secure and clear the suspicious package.

On the scene, we observed a heavy police presence, and AFR units were also seen staged nearby. APD was trying to coordinate the evacuation of a building that shares a wall with the loading dock. The scene was secured and a loud controlled detonation was initiated on the package around 12:30PM.

In Deming, New Mexico, on Monday, a suspicious package was found by the New Mexico State Police near government buildings. The NMSP was advising people on X (formerly known as Twitter) to avoid the magistrate and probation office.

Also on Monday morning, the Las Cruces Police Department addressed a perceived threat involving a suspicious package at the Adult Probation Office on 2635 W. Picacho Avenue. Following protocol, the Dona Ana County Sheriff’s Office Bomb Squad collaborated with LCPD to evaluate the situation and identify the nature of the unidentified item. Fortunately, after thorough examination, it was revealed that the package was merely an empty box.

In early January, several state capitals faced evacuations due to bomb threats. Connecticut, Georgia, Hawaii, Kentucky, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, and Montana were among the states where statehouse offices or buildings were evacuated.

Late Monday afternoon, we recevied a statement from the U.S. Attorney’s Office of New Mexico: Today, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of New Mexico received a package containing a suspected explosive device at the Albuquerque Office. The device in the package was detected, isolated, and then safely detonated by law enforcement without injury. The ATF, FBI, HSI, and the U.S. Marshals Service are working with local law enforcement partners to investigate.
