Sweet Innocent Baby Dies After Abuse; War Zone Parents Facing Upgraded Charges

The Albuquerque Police Department has announced that the 3-month-old baby who was the victim of abuse died today, three days after being rushed to the hospital with severe injuries.

APD states that the baby is identified as Mika Castillo. The baby was born in July 2025.

The parents, Johnathan Castillo, 23 and Jessica Brusuelas, 26, were charged in connection with the child abuse that resulted in the baby’s injuries. Detectives from APD’s Crimes Against Children Unit (CACU) will work with the DA’s Office to upgrade charges due to the death of the baby.

APD previously announced that the Child Youth and Family Department (CYFD) had taken the four-year-old into their care.
