Albuquerque –
The Albuquerque Police Department and Albuquerque Fire and Rescue have responded to a motor vehicle accident involving a semi-truck on I-25 southbound near Coal. The semi, which appears to be a fuel truck, is partially hanging off of I-25 southbound.
According to NMROADS, police have closed two lanes of I-25 southbound at Lead; the right lane remains open.** A portion of Coal Avenue, which runs underneath I-25, will also be closed. Additional lane closures are possible, so drivers may experience delays in the area. APD, New Mexico State Police, Police Service Aides, and National Guard are assisting with lane closures.
You can go to NMROADS.com for additional details on when the road is reopened. To check on cameras on the interstate, click on the left side of the toolbar and enable the road cameras.
**UPDATE:
After this publication, it was announced that police were closing all of I-25 SB at Central as a tow truck attempts to remove the semi-truck that is hanging off the side of the interstate. It was learned the fuel truck was empty.
UPDATE 2:
As of 3:05 PM, the southbound lanes of I-25 remain closed. The bridge’s structural integrity was being assessed. If given the all clear, the interstate should reopen once once the semi is cleared from the roadway.
UPDATE 3:
As of 4:35 PM, I-25SB is still closed.
UPDATE 4:
Interstate 25 southbound reopened around 5:10 PM.
