UPDATE: Knife Wielding Homeless Man Dragged Down the Road After Attempted Stabbing Incident

On September 3rd, 2026, at around 5PM people were calling in to 911 about a possible attempted stabbing incident near the I-40 and Louisiana exit ramp.  A few moments later, callers advised that a body was in the southbound lanes of Louisiana near Mountain NE.

The two events it turned out were related.  A witness told police that a homeless man tried to stab an occupant of a vehicle at Louisiana and I-40. At some point, the suspect with the knife grabbed onto the car and stayed on it until he fell off at Louisiana near Mountain NE.  The victim of the attempted stabbing did leave the scene but eventually contacted police to report what had happened.

The armed homeless man who was dragged by the vehicle was critically injured and is still at UNMH. APD tells us that Detectives are still investigating but if the homeless man lives he could face charges for his role in the initial knife confrontation. The people in the car were questioned and released.
