ALBUQUERQUE – A resident of Maryland has been indicted by a federal grand jury for fraudulently submitting a voter registration application in New Mexico.
According to court documents, in September 2022, Robert Glenn Johnson, 63, of Annapolis, Maryland, allegedly submitted a voter registration application to the Bernalillo County Clerk’s Office Bureau of Elections in Albuquerque falsely claiming to be a New Mexico resident.
“New Mexico’s elections are for New Mexico voters, and we intend to keep it that way,” said First Assistant U.S. Attorney Ryan Ellison. “Residency isn’t a matter of convenience when it comes to voting. We are aggressively investigating election fraud and prosecuting those who seek to undermine the integrity of our elections.”
“The FBI is committed to keeping our communities safe; not only from violent offenders, but from fraudsters as well,” said Justin A. Garris, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI-Albuquerque Division. “If you commit a crime in New Mexico, justice will find you.”
Johnson was arrested in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on Monday, October 26, 2026, and made his initial appearance before a U.S. Magistrate Judge in the Eastern District of Wisconsin. He was released on bond pending further proceedings in the District of New Mexico.
First Assistant U.S. Attorney Ryan Ellison and Special Agent in Charge Justin A. Garris of the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Albuquerque Field Office made the announcement today.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Albuquerque Field Office investigated this case. Federal prosecutors commended the Bernalillo County Clerk’s Office Bureau of Elections for assisting this investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Sean J. Sullivan and Emil J. Kiehne are prosecuting the case.
