Albuquerque –
Around 2:00 PM on Saturday, January 3rd, Albuquerque Fire Rescue was dispatched to a single-story residential fire at 633 Española St NE. When firefighters from Medic 5 arrived, they reported visible smoke and flames coming from the front of the residence.
Crews from Ladder 5 worked to ventilate the structure, while firefighters from Rescue 5 searched inside the home, and crews looked for the origin of the fire. By approximately 2:06 PM, firefighters from Rescue 5 confirmed the interior was clear, and around the same time Engine 5 located the origin of the fire.

The Battalion Chief cancelled additional responding units around 2:09 PM, and the fire was brought under control at 2:11 PM, meaning crews stopped the fire from spreading further. Firefighters then conducted a secondary search of the home’s interior.
At approximately 2:17 PM, the Battalion Chief on scene declared “loss stop,” indicating all reasonable efforts had been made to prevent further damage from fire, smoke, and water, after the fire was extinguished. Utility companies were requested to respond to the residence.
AFR stated that the cause of the fire was a cooking fire, and that the damage was primarily contained to the kitchen. It remains uncertain whether any residents of the house were displaced.
No firefighters or civilians where injured responding to this incident or fighting this blaze.
Mobile Home Fire Brought Under Control in Southeast ABQ
At approximately 2:10 PM on Saturday, January 3, an officer with the Albuquerque Police Department was patrolling near the intersection of Cochiti Rd and California St SE when they observed a mobile home on fire at 6500 Cochiti Rd SE. The officer promptly notified APD dispatch, who then requested Albuquerque Fire Rescue to respond as the fire was actively spreading.

The APD officer attempted to open the door of the trailer to search for occupants, but the flames had spread significantly. The officer relayed that they didn’t believe anyone was inside the single-wide trailer. The officer also expressed concerns about the fire spreading to nearby trailers. He also mentioned that flames reached as high as the overhead power lines.
Medic 05 arrived on scene at approximately 2:14 PM and reported a working fire with smoke and flames visible throughout the structure. The fire presented in defensive conditions, meaning that when firefighters arrived, the fire was already too large, intense, and dangerous to safely enter the structure to fight it from the inside. Engine 5 and Ladder 5 also responded to pull additional lines and assist Medic 5.
Firefighters had stated they believed this trailer had burned previously. At the time of the incident, PNM was requested to this location to check the power lines.
The fire was brought under control within 12 minutes of arrival. AFR stated that the structure sustained extensive damage.

No civilian or firefighter injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is currently undetermined.
The fire crews who worked this second fire are from Station 5, which worked the earlier fire on Española.
