Albuquerque –
On Friday, February 14, 2025, Albuquerque Fire Rescue (AFR) crews actively worked a fully involved RV fire at 530 Utah St. SE in southeast Albuquerque. Medic 5 was first on scene just after at 11:53 AM, and reported heavy fire conditions with a high rescue profile and exposures on both the east and west sides. A “high rescue profile” refers to a situation where there is a significant likelihood that an occupant may be trapped inside the burning structure. Shortly after arrival, Medic 5 declared that the structure was “fully involved” and were operating in a defensive strategy due to the intensity of the flames.
Battalion Commanders 1 and 2, Engine 5 and 12, Ladder 5, Medic 5, and Rescue 5 were engaged in fire suppression efforts. The fire, which reportedly originated in an RV, posed an imminent threat to a nearby mobile home and other structures. Engine 5 arrived on scene and laid multiple lines for fire attack. Engine 12 dropped a supply line.
Firefighters had the blaze knocked down within 13 minutes of dispatch. Tragically, responders discovered a deceased civilian inside the RV. The fire completely destroyed the RV. The adjacent mobile home sustained smoke damage and fire damage to the carport, but crews successfully prevented further extension.
No firefighters were injured. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, with AFR’s Arson 1 (AR1) responding to find out what caused the fire.
