Around 8:10 PM, officers with the Albuquerque Police Department responded to a crash involving a moped and a vehicle near Carlisle Blvd NE and Montgomery Blvd NE.
The rider was pronounced dead at the scene.
A witness contacted us to report that a moped was “obliterated.” The witness said the crash happened on Montgomery east of Carlisle. They also said the roads were closed and there were “lots of police.“
APD, APD Police Service Aides, and Transit units have closed Montgomery Blvd. between Carlisle Blvd. and Washington St. NE. The roadway will remain closed while officers process the scene. Traffic closures will be adjusted as needed during the investigation.
UPDATE:
APD’s Civilian PIO Franchesca Perdue issued a media advisory about the crash at 9:44 PM on Sunday, June 28, stating:
“APD officers are actively investigating a fatal crash near the intersection of Montgomery Blvd. and Washington St. NE.
Officers were dispatched to the intersection just after 4:00pm after receiving reports of a motor vehicle crash involving a motorcycle. The driver of the motorcycle was pronounced deceased on scene.”
According to Albuquerque Fire Rescue dispatch records, this call was received at 8:14 PM. Rescue 19 and Engine 19 responded. Rescue 19 canceled ambulance transport at 8:27 PM.
At 8:30 PM, APD began dispatching Police Service Aides (PSAs) to the area to block traffic while officers conducted their investigation. Around 8:35 PM, officers requested that an investigator bring a “body blocker” to the crash scene because the deceased motorcyclist was lying near the roadway.
As of 3:52 PM on Monday, June 29, APD has not released any additional information regarding the cause of the fatal crash.
