The Albuquerque Police Department’s Fatal Crash Unit was called out to investigate the crash that left two people dead in the North Valley on Sunday night.
Officers were dispatched November 2nd at 7:48 PM to the area of 2nd St NW and Candelaria Rd NW after reports of a two-vehicle crash. Two people in one of the vehicles died at the scene.
APD states that investigators determined that a blue Toyota Tacoma was traveling west on Candelaria in the right lane and entered the intersection at 2nd St. on a green light. A blue 1967 Triumph convertible ran the red light on north 2nd St. and t-boned the Toyota. The Toyota then struck two additional vehicles stopped for the red light in the southbound left-turn lane of 2nd St.
Albuquerque Fire Rescue responded to reports of occupants trapped and unconscious inside vehicles following the crash. Emergency crews transported all occupants of the Toyota to the hospital, where they remain in stable condition. The driver and passenger of the Triumph died at the scene.
The crash remains under investigation.
