The Albuquerque Police Department’s Motor Unit is investigating a critical injury crash that occurred in the 8800 block of Susan Ave SE, near the intersection of Wyoming Blvd and Susan Ave SE.
Just before 10:30 AM, APD officers and Albuquerque Fire Rescue were dispatched to the scene after receiving reports of a traffic accident with injuries that left the driver of a vehicle unconscious.
Upon arrival, Albuquerque Fire Rescue crews from Engine 5, Ladder 5, and Rescue 5 found one occupant trapped inside the vehicle. The individual was unconscious and had critical injuries. AFR crews worked to extricate the person. The injured individual was transported by paramedics to the University of New Mexico Hospital.
APD has dispatched its Motor Unit to investigate due to the severity of the driver’s injuries.
We have reached out to both Albuquerque Fire Rescue and the Albuquerque Police Department for information on this incident and the injured person’s condition. As of this publication, we have not received a reply.
UPDATE:
Shortly after publication, APD’s civilian public information officer Gilbert Gallegos sent out a media alert which advised that a vehicle crashed into a fence in the 8800 block of Susan Ave. S.E. Gallegos said “the driver, an adult male, was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.“
