On Tuesday* morning at approximately 2:45 AM, officers from the Albuquerque Police Department and emergency personnel from Albuquerque Fire Rescue responded to a single-vehicle rollover accident on westbound Interstate 40 near the Eubank Boulevard exit. Initially, the call was reported to AFR as occurring near I-40WB and Juan Tabo, but the location was later corrected to I-40WB and Eubank. AFR dispatched Battalion Chief 2 (BC2), Engine 2 (E9), Engine 12 (E12), Emergency Medical Services Unit 1 (EMS1), Rescue 12 (R12), and Squad 2 (SQ2) to the scene.

Preliminary information states that a silver Ford pickup truck left the roadway, struck a barrier, and overturned. The driver, the only person in the vehicle, suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene.

According to APD, three witnesses reported that the truck was traveling at a normal speed in the second lane when it suddenly drifted across multiple lanes and collided with the barrier. While a vehicle malfunction was initially suspected, further evidence suggests that driver error or a possible medical event may have contributed to the crash. A passerby driving through the area informed us that, as of 5:40 AM, police were still on the scene investigating. Reports indicate that AFR remained on-site until about 3:40 AM.

We will update you if we learn more about this incident.

An earlier version of this story incorrectly stated the day of the crash as Wednesday. It occurred on Tuesday, October 29.
