The Bernalillo County District Attorney’s Office is committed to the pursuit of justice. The week of July 21, 2025, there are four jury trials taking place in Bernalillo County.
Janice Kowalchuk
Case Number: D-202-CR-2022-01736
- Aggravated Assault (Deadly Weapon)(Firearm Enhancement)
- Aggravated Burglary (Armed After Entering)
- Larceny Firearm (Less than $2,500)
- Negligent Use of a Deadly Weapon (Discharge)
Judge Bruce C. Fox will preside over the jury trial in the case of State of New Mexico v. Janice Elena Kowalchuk (Case No. D-202-CR-2022-01736), scheduled for 8:30 AM on July 21 and July 22, 2025, in Courtroom 706.
UPDATE:
On July 23, a jury found Janice Kowalchuk guilty of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Aggravated Burglary, Larceny, and Negligent Use of a Deadly Weapon.
On July 31, 2022, Kowalchuk broke into a man’s van and stole an 1860 Colt revolver. When the victim confronted her and tried to recover the firearm, she opened fire. The dramatic incident was caught on camera.
She now faces a potential prison sentence of more than ten years.
Raymond Quezada
Case Number: D-202-CR-2025-00282

On July 24, 2025, at 8:30 AM, a jury trial in the case of State of New Mexico v. Raymond Quezada (Case No. D-202-CR-2025-00282) will be held at the Second Judicial District Court, presided over by Judge Brett R. Loveless.
Case Number: D-202-CR-2022-02612
- First Degree Murder (Willful & Deliberate)(Firearm Enhancement)
- Armed Robbery(Firearm Enhancement)
- Tampering with Evidence
Judge Clara Moran will preside over the jury trial in the case of State of New Mexico v. Raul Garcia (Case No. D-202-CR-2022-02612), scheduled for 8:30 AM on July 21, 22, and 23, 2025, in Courtroom 338.
Tony Paz
Case Number: D-202-CR-2024-00408
- Kidnapping (First Degree)(Victim Over 18)
- 3 Counts of Criminal Sexual Penetration in the Second
On July 21, 22, and 23, 2025, at 8:30 AM each day, a jury trial in the case of State of New Mexico v. Tony Paz (Case No. D-202-CR-2024-00408) will be held in Courtroom 416, presided over by Judge Joseph A. Montano.
Courts presume that the defendant is innocent unless and until the prosecution secures a conviction through due process.
