Albuquerque –

On Saturday, September 28, 2024 at around 2:38 AM, officers from the Albuquerque Police Department and Albuquerque Fire Rescue were dispatched to 2339 2nd Street SW for a crash. The incident purportedly involved two vehicles: a white Ford F-550 and a silver Dodge Avenger. Albuquerque Fire Rescue sent Engine 1 and Rescue 1 to the scene.

The driver of the Dodge Avenger reportedly fled the scene on foot prior to officers arriving. Emergency personnel rushed the abandoned passenger to the hospital in critical condition.

Due to the severity of the passenger’s injuries, the Albuquerque Police Department’s Fatal Crash Team began investigating.

Investigators say the Dodge Avenger was driving north on 2nd Street when it hit the front of the parked, unoccupied Ford F-550, which was on the side of the road. After the collision, the Dodge Avenger rolled over and eventually came to a stop. As of this writing, authorities are still searching for the driver who fled the scene.

The investigation is ongoing.

Should we receive updates on the driver’s arrest or the passenger’s condition, we’ll let you know.

A wave of injury-related crashes hit the Albuquerque metro area, totaling at least 19 of them beginning at 4:00 PM Friday and lasting until midnight. We can presently only count the injury crashes that AFR responded to. Not included in the count are accidents where drivers just exchanged information and didn’t wait for police or rescue.

We reported on four of the injury accidents, including a crash involving a motorcycle and silver SUV on Juan Tabo. There were also two crashes on Central, one at Central and Broadway involving a motorcycle and at least one other vehicle, and another at Central and Atrisco. Later in the evening, an accident occurred at Unser and Paradise, which blocked traffic on eastbound Paradise and southbound Unser.
