Albuquerque –
On Tuesday, January 14th, 2025, officers from the Albuquerque Police Department were dispatched to the area of Central Ave and San Pablo St SE for reports of a BMW that was chasing a man on a scooter. According to a witness, the erratically behaving BMW driver was making multiple passes and even making U-turns to go after the scooter occupant. Officers were able to stop the BMW driver before serious injuries were sustained.
The incident ended in the International District Library parking lot where APD officers were able to detain the two men who were involved in the incident. The BMW driver was upset his scooter was stolen and wanted it back. The man in the BMW took matters into his own hands and tried to knock the other man off of his scooter.
The other man was detained by police and was not giving straight answers. While on scene, we observed the suspect not wanting to give his name to officers. He eventually did give his name and he was found to have outstanding warrants. He also did not want to pursue charges against the BMW driver for trying to hit him. The driver was released and he left the scene.
Albuquerque Fire responded to the scene because the man with the warrants had a very severe case of incarceritis and he wanted to be checked out by EMS. He was able to parlay his warrant status to a delayed trip to jail with a hospital evaluation.
We will update this story if we learn anymore information.
Hard to tell the good guys from the bad guys. Here, the good guys ARE the bad guys.
Proud of the owner for fighting for his possession! Glad no one was hurt!
Incarceritis is a term used to describe when a patient intentionally exaggerates or falsifies symptoms of illness or trauma to avoid going to jail.
This seems to be very common with NM people who get arrested. They stupidly think that this will delay them going to jail or…I don’t know what actually. More just wasting the Hospital’s time to be honest.
