Richard Abeyta, 65, of Albuquerque, who was wanted for human trafficking, criminal sexual penetration, criminal sexual contact of a minor and false imprisonment.

New Mexico –

The New Mexico Legislature is convening for 30-days and the main focus is on public safety. ABQ RAW has seen first hand, the toll violent crime has had on New Mexicans. There are crimes so heinous that it make us wonder if humanity even exists anymore. More times than not, the plot line of the criminal offender is another violent, convicted felon who should not have even been out of the prison system in the first place.

The Governor of New Mexico, Michelle Lujan-Grisham, the Democratic Party of New Mexico, and Republican Party of New Mexico have outlined it’s plans for the 30-day session. The majority of the laws proposed are punishment to law abiding citizens and no real substance to the real hard core criminals who actually commit these crimes. The New Mexico Corrections Department has a weird math formula for serving time in the New Mexico Prison system. Many times the convicted felon will only see a quarter of their full sentence because the felon finds a way to make the sentence go away with “good time.”

Christian Wood, 26, of Albuquerque is escorted to the Prisoner Transport Center in Downtown Albuquerque. Wood has fired guns at police officers. At the time he had 14 violent warrants. He will spend 10 years in prison but likely be let out in 4 years.

The financial and social costs associated with maintaining a system that imposes lifelong incarceration without the possibility of parole are seen by advocates as a worthwhile investment in public safety. They contend that the value of protecting society from the most dangerous individuals justifies the resources allocated to such a system.

We agree with the cost associated with keeping the worst of the worst locked up. Many times we have seen the brightest and best wage earners of New Mexico get violently victimized by these monsters.

Some of the crimes that should be considered life sentences are as follows: murder, shooting at law enforcement, multiple violent offenses, attempted murder, serial rapists, sexual exploitation of minors, and heinous crimes deemed by the judge.

In conclusion, support for bringing back life without parole in New Mexico revolves around a commitment to justice, public safety, and the well-being of victims. Advocates believe that by taking a firm stance against the most severe crimes, society can then establish a deterrent while providing closure for those who have suffered the profound impact of such offenses.

We are losing the best the state has to offer to violent crime through deaths or citizens simply giving up and moving out of the state.

It is time lock up this problem for life while tossing the key away. We have given too many chances to the evil monsters of New Mexico. The evil monsters know this and walk around New Mexico with confidence.
