UPDATE:
APD homicide detectives charged Michael Follette, Jr., for the deadly shooting on Tuesday night in Downtown Albuquerque.
Follette, 46, is accused of fatally shooting his girlfriend, Skye Johnson, shortly after 11 p.m. on Tuesday near the intersection of 8th St. and Central Ave. Johnson, 38, was transported to a local hospital where she later died.
Witnesses said they heard an argument coming from a black truck, followed by gunshots, just south of the round-about at 8th St. and Central Ave. One witness said he saw a body, later identified as Johnson, fall out of the driver’s seat onto the road. The witness then saw a man, later identified as Follette, exit the passenger side of the truck, walk around the rear end of the truck, and start shooting toward him. The witness was not injured.
Other witnesses said they heard arguing and gunshots.
APD’s Real Time Crime Center helped to identify the black truck using Automated License Plate Readers. Follette was identified as the registered owner.
Detectives later learned that Follette was arrested early this morning around 1:10 a.m. by Edgewood Police, who responded to a vehicle crash. Follette crashed a white Toyota, but Edgewood Police later discovered Follette’s black truck had been abandoned in Edgewood around midnight.
Follette is charged with an open count of murder, tampering with evidence, shooting at/from a motor vehicle and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
