Albuquerque –
On May 14th, 2026, Albuquerque Police’s Mounted Patrol Unit were called out to a heated exchange between three individuals located at Central Ave NE and Tulane Dr NE. The incident started as a fight between two e-bike riders and a tow truck driver. 47-year-old tow truck driver Anthony Mark Sandoval of Albuquerque is now being charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and battery.
According to the criminal complaint, when the horse unit arrived they observed men fighting and they detained all of the individuals involved. One of the e-bike riders stated he and his uncle were riding their bike on a sidewalk on Central Ave. The man said the tow truck driver did not yield to them when he turned northbound and he called the driver a “faggot” and other insults.
The driver and two e-bike riders then got into a verbal altercation that led to Sandoval spitting on the victim and he punched him a couple of times. During the altercation, Sandoval went back to his truck and pulled a handgun out. The victim stated at one point Sandoval told them “I got something for you, I have a gun and I will put two hot ones in you.“
The complaint says Sandoval told officers he and the victim struggled over the gun and he told the victim there is no round in the chamber. Sandoval stated he had $1,800 on his person.
According to the complaint, officers found the firearm on the floorboard and did not locate the $1,800 he claimed he had. APD booked Sandoval into MDC. He has a felony record dating back to 2000.
The tow truck was sealed for evidence and towed away by another tow truck.
