Albuquerque –

Around 2:25 PM, on Monday, February 24, officers from the Albuquerque Police Department (APD) and emergency personnel from Albuquerque Fire Rescue responded to a crash in the area of Montano Plaza Dr NW and Coors Blvd NW. The call came into AFR as a vehicle vs motorcycle collision. At least one person was taken to the University of New Mexico Hospital by AFR’s Rescue 18 with critical injuries. The rider was purportedly unresponsive when AFR arrived.

APD and Police Service Aides are blocking off northbound lanes of traffic at Coors and Montaño Rd NW. Drivers may see APD block off southbound Coors at La Orilla Rd NW.

APD’s Motors Unit is being called out to investigate this motor vehicle crash. Should we learn more information, we will update you.

UPDATE:

We have since learned that the rider from this motor vehicle crash has died from their injuries.

APD stated that their Fatal Crash Unit is currently investigating.

UPDATE 2 @ 5:21 PM:

APD has finished their crash investigation. Traffic is being re-opened at Coors and Montaño and Coors and Montaño Plaza.

  1. Hello, I am a critical care nurse who immediately responded and started CPR on this gentleman. Before needing to start CPR He made eye contact with me, he squeezed my hands and I held his, I wanted to reach out to the family if possible.

    1. I passed by the crash right after they loaded him up in the ambulance. What luck that you were there- even if you couldn’t save him. Being there to comfort him and let him know he wasn’t alone is significant.

      I’m sure his family will appreciate this.

    2. Monique, I am the sister of the man who was on the motorcycle. I just want to make sure you were at the motorcycle accident and not the scooter accident. Apparently there were two accidents that day. You can reach out to me.

  2. So tragic. Thank you to the first responders. I left my motorcycle in NJ when I moved here 8 years ago. Drivers just don’t seem to care about riders here.
